RE: Tire Pressure - Am I reading the chart correctly?

If you talk to any tire manufacturer or their representive they will tell you if you are going to err on tire pressure err on the high side. 90% of damage to tires is because of under inflation not over inflation. Under inflation generates more heat in the tire and causes constrution break down, over inflation causes harder ride and does no damage to the carcus of the tire. All the makers will tell you unless you have the correct running weights to work with run your air pressure at the top sidewall allowance, it won't hurt the tire but will make it safer and it will last longer.

RE: GM in Preliminary Talks With Chrysler

If you think the government can do a better job building cars, go to Russia and buy a Skoda before you make your decision.

RE: What Tow'd to get? We want 4X4, Auto, Good mileage-nice ride

You're right Texan, previous to '07 they were tough on the highway. We got rid of our '03 and '04 Rubicons because of the ride and I dearly loved those Jeeps. We missed being able to really go off road and started longing for another Wrangler and we wanted something easy to tow. You know people can say what they want about their VUE's and their CRX's with AWD but they just don't understand what a Jeep can do. A stock Jeep will get you so far off the beaten track that they have to pump the sunshine in. When we are deep in the toolies, I have yet to see anything other than a Jeep. I just love folks that try to compare an almost 4x4 to a Jeep, they aren't even in the same class. If you want to REALLY go off road you need a Jeep, there is no discussion. As much as I hate to say it DC really took a great Jeep in the TJ and made it better in the current JK. It's smoother, quieter, more fuel efficent, and has better creature comforts.

RE: What Tow'd to get? We want 4X4, Auto, Good mileage-nice ride

Obviously, the poster wasn't familar with the new Wranglers. Our is the best riding Jeep we've owned, it gets decent gas mileage and is quite comfortable. We've put 14,000 miles on our '08 in 6 months none of it has been as a toad, haven't had the time to set it up yet. It gets around 18 mpg average for all styles of driving, is great off or on road. Of the 7 Jeeps I've owned it's one of the best ever, this one is a keeper,

RE: How do you store spices/seasonings?

Try doing a "Google" search for "The Tubular Spice Company". There are several options available from them. I use the wooden one with the test tube looking containers. It comes with 40 1/4 oz. tubes plus 2 spares. It's about the size of a large index card file. I set it on a piece of expand rubber shelf liner and it has stayed put on the countertop, from one side of the country to the other.

RE: favorite tool

My KitchenAid 12 cup Food Processor. OK, so I'm obsessive. It's my go to tool for preparation. The "Black Knight" does everything.

RE: Master Stateroom TV reception

This might be a little simple and is easily over looked. Did you have the bedroom TV set to receive cable. Both our TV's have to be changed when we use cable from the campground. You should be able to go into the TV's menu system and set it fro cable. It usually takes me messing with the cables for about an hour before I figure it out. Adult beverages don't help solve the problem.

RE: Current fuel in GA and NC

We paid $3.99 a gallon for regular unleaded on 10/6/08 in eastern Ashville NC. There didn't seem to be any shortages and all the pumps were pumping. If you are headed that way for the fall colors I'd wait about another week or ten days, they are just starting to turn in the mountains. The dealers normally rip off the fall tourists in that area.

RE: Wireless printer through Blue Tooth or WIFI?

Ifeather, it depends on the printer. Our Canon uses a special adapter and the standard USB Bluetooth adapter won't work. Our printer has 10 connections and the standard adapter only has 4. I tried it and returned the standard and went with the Canon adapter.

RE: Want to use 2 Laptops

It's quite simple, use your Verizon card in a router designed for it. We've been doing it for 2 years. It works great.

RE: Lodge Cast Iron

I've found that the pre=seasoned cast iron really need to be seasoned again or they will rust. Pre-seasoning just makes it a touch faster to get a good season.

RE: Wireless printer through Blue Tooth or WIFI?

I have three bluetooth accessories hooked up to the computer, mouse, keyboard, and printer. Simple as falling off a log to set-up. I wouldn't go any other way.

RE: Running fridge on the inverter

It depends quite a bit on how your chassis charge system is set up. In our Monaco it states very plainly that the chassis electrical system isn't set up to charge the house batteries at anything more than minimal charge AFTER all chassis responsibilities are covered. We've used the inverter for running a crock pot and other small things while on the road. Our crock pot pulls 250 watts and when we plug in, the batteries start charging at bulk rate of right at 100 amps, so it pulls the batteries down a bit. I'm a get it cold and don't open it person, it'll stay cold for the 6 to 8 hours we drive.

RE: support under the leveler feet

They are OK on solid ground and you shouldn't have a problem on asphalt. On anything approaching soft ground they aren't worth squat, they just can't handle the weight of a coach. They will fold themselves right around the leveler foot as your MH sinks into the ground. Ask me how I know.

RE: Pad Advice

Consider placing small concrete pads where you park the MH. We have a pad of concrete roughly the size of a piece of plywood that I place the wheels and tires on, one front and one rear, and the rest of the pad is compacted rock (crush and run). The pads are level front and rear and have enough width to allow placing the levelers down if I want to. It works great for us and the smaller pads handle the weight just fine. You could have the best of both worlds, parking the MH on concrete and either stone or asphalt for the rest of it. It would help keep your costs down.

RE: Repair For Gas Lifts on Basement Doors

Quite a few of the cylinders are generic. I needed one once and the dealer wanted $45 I took it off and went to the auto parts store and found it for $12. Just take your old one to compare it with what they have.

RE: Digital Picture Question...

I use Aperture on my Mac, which allows you to easily access the EXIF data. The way Aperture is set up you can actually edit and increase the data that is stored with the file. You can add keywords and a rating system, add a copy write tag to the file, search any of the metadata of the shot. Aperture 2. (what ever it is now) has become quite a full bodied program that is great for cataloging and editing photographs.

RE: Escapees website

Because the "Escapees" and forum web hosts are on separate computers, that run on different electrical circuits, it is quite possible that one or the other isn't powered up at any given point in time. Both operate independently and one could be without power when you try to access it.

RE: Residency Requirements (Here we go again!)

Without knowing the driving force behind the issues in TN., it's difficult to understand the dynamics of the situation. In any political arena, whether if be local, state, or federal, you would hope for a level playing field, which is where our one man, one vote policy developed. If a political faction senses a way to tilt the playing field in their direction, it's in their best interests to exercise that option. Who would gain from removing these voters from the rolls ? I can't speak for the problem in TN. but in doing a little research on the Escapees suit and where it came from, I really started to understand some of the political dynamics behind what transpired in Livingston. You have to understand that Livingston is a small rural Texas city, with 6000 residents. Escapees are transient by nature and Rainbows End has a resident population of maybe 1000 which would have an address other than the mail service. When you throw the mail service residents into the mix you increase that number by several thousand voters. Politically if, you could take those voters off the voting rolls, you would have much more control over the outcome of the election, especially local ones. The drive to get Escapees taken off the voting rolls, was a plain and simple political turf war, a way for a very small local political group a supposed leg up when it came election time. Thank goodness the courts decided that voters rights are paramount.

RE: Escapees website

The last time I talked to anyone in Livingston, they were still running on generators and the forum server and website server were running on different circuits. It's possible for one to be up and the other not. From the pictures that I have seen, there is a tremendous amount of damage from blown down trees. Personally we have damage to our MH from a 75' tall hickory tree, that just grazed the front corner, cracked windshield, damaged front cap, and awnings torn off. We have three fallen trees in our backyard, one of which is laying on our shed with no reported damage. It's a mess, for sure. It is tough for us, because of other commitments, we can't get back to the house for another month at least.
